History of Baby / Scholar Hair Brush

In Malaysia, the Baby / Scholar Hair Brush "胎毛笔" is getting popular and parents start to know about this precious gift and order the Baby / Scholar Hair Brush for their babies.

Baby's hairs (Infant's hairs) "胎毛" start to grow when the baby is still in the womb, that is why people think it is the gift of spirit and can bring good luck. For "Feng Shui", people usually keep their Baby / Scholar Hair Brush in the study room to inspire their children. Therefore, "Baby Hair Brush" is also called as "Scholar Brush".

During the ancient time, the brush was made from the hairs of a newborn baby. About 1500 years ago, an old lady from Southern of China invented a brush with the newborn's hairs inside and the rabbit's hairs outside. It was said that the brush was the favourite brush of Xiao Ziyun, a famous calligrapher of that time. Even today, a lot of people ask the calligraphy brush manufacturers to make calligraphy/scholar brush from their newborn babies' hairs. However, they do not use it but keep it as a souvenir, wishing their children will be inspired after he/she sees it and hope that they will become a determine person of letters when they grow up in the future.

Today, the fetal hairs calligraphy/scholar brush has quickly become a unique work of art among the eastern traditional culture.
